Last Friday, April 17, 2020, Jacksonville Beach, Florida, became the first beach in the country to reopen after it was closed due to COVID-19. As more states consider easing restrictions to combat the coronavirus pandemic, beaches in Florida and other parts of the US are reopening.

Spanish settlers first moved to the area in the 16th century, but Jacksonville Beach really began to flourish and become the lively beach town it is today. The name of the city was changed to "Jacksonville Beach" and a handful of amusement parks were built on the piers.
